Rachel – Day 145

The News: China’s Plans To Build A Bus That Straddles Traffic. This is China’s forward thinking at it’s best. The idea is to have a bus that can straddle traffic in order to reduce congestion on the roads without having to widen the road and waste energy and space. See photos: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/02/3d-express-coach-pictures_n_667452.html .

The first construction of this bus termed the “3-D Express Coach” is going to start at the end of 2010, it will take about a year and around $73 million.

My Comments: You have got to click on the link to look at these pictures. This is unreal, very futuristic and a little more than I’m comfortable with. However, it is a really smart and green idea to follow and will probably be fantastic long-term. It’s just weird initially since it’s so out-of-the-box.

I think the most unbelievable part is that they plan to complete it in 1 year. The “Woodmen Road Corridor Improvement Project” (a revamping of an intersection near my office) is expected to take 2 years and cost 42.7 million dollars. Hmmmm . . .
